Part-1

 • Para Play

My name is Lemuel / —Lemuel Gulliver. // I once was a
doctor. //
I had always wanted to travel, / so I made several voyages
from my country, / England, / to faraway nations of the world. //

 • Para Play

I began my first voyage with some sailors / on May 4, /
1699. //
On our way to the East Indies, / a big storm hit us. // The
wind shook our ship / as if the ship were a leaf in the wind. //
It
drove our ship on to a rock, / which broke the ship in half. //
I fell
into the water. //
When I woke up / and tried to get up, / I couldn’t
move. //
My arms, / legs, / and even my long hair / were fastened
to the ground. //
Suddenly, / I heard noises around me, / and I
couldn’t believe my eyes! //
There were very, / very small human
beings, / only fifteen centimeters tall! //

 • Para Play

This was a country / called Lilliput. // After I promised to
behave well, / people began to like me / and called me “[Man-
Mountain].” //
One day / the King requested / that I join a war
against an enemy country. //
I helped them / by stealing many
enemy ships. //
The King then ordered me / to help make the
enemy country part of Lilliput. //
I thought that was going too
far / and said no. //
The King got angry / and tried to blind me. // I
was very surprised, / and I decided to leave the country secretly /
on a boat. //

Part-2

 • Para Play

During another voyage, / my ship was attacked by pirates. //
They didn’t kill me, / but they took everything / and left me alone
on a small boat / near India. //
Luckily, / I managed to reach a
small island. //

 • Para Play

I wanted to ask for help, / but there was no one on the
island. //
Suddenly / it became darker around me. // When I looked
up, / I saw a large island / up in the sky, / between the sun and
me! //
A flying island! // I was very surprised / and very afraid. //

To my great surprise, / however, / I noticed a number of people
moving around / and looking down at me / from up there. //
I
wanted to live, / so I shouted, / “Help! / Help!” //
They lowered a
chain down / and pulled me up. //
This was how I was saved / by
this strange flying island / called Laputa. //

 • Para Play

The people in Laputa / spoke a different language, / so I
started to take notes / of what they said. //
Strangely, / they always
tried to explain things / with words from mathematics. //
Also, /
they believed / they had a special ability for music / and played
music for hours and hours / without rest. //
Soon I was so bored /
that I decided to leave. //

Part-3

 • Para Play

While I was staying in a large country / called Luggnagg, / I
met a trader / who could take me to a far eastern country / called
Japan. //
I decided to join them, / because I knew / there were a lot
of Dutch traders there / who could take me back to England. //
I
asked the Luggnagg King / for a personal letter to the Japanese
emperor / for my safety, / and he was kind enough / to write one
for me. //
The first place I landed after two weeks / was Xamoschi, /
a small town in the southeast part of Japan. //
We traveled
north to the capital / called Yedo / because I wanted to go to
Nangasac safely. //

 • Para Play

When I was introduced / to the Emperor of Japan, / I asked /
if he would do me a favor. //
I wanted to go to Nangasac / in safety, /
so I asked him to excuse me / from a special ceremony / of stepping
on a picture of Jesus or Mary, / called fumie. //
This was done to
find Catholics / because the Emperor didn’t like their religion. //
Thanks to the personal letter / that I brought from Luggnagg, / I
could pass through / without doing that ceremony. //
On June 9, /
1709, / I arrived at Nangasac / and left for my country. //
