Jacob: | Oh, did you bring your own chopsticks? |
Naoko: | Yes. I always bring my own chopsticks to restaurants. |
Jacob: | Why do you do that? |
Naoko: | I want to save trees by using my own chopsticks. I think disposable chopsticks are a waste of wood. I also think it’s not good for the environment. |
Jacob: | That’s right. But I hear that some Japanese chopsticks are made of thinned wood. |
Naoko: | Thinned wood? |
Jacob: | Well, to make trees grow better, they have to cut some trees to stop the forests from getting too crowded. They use those parts of the trees to make chopsticks. |
Naoko: | I heard that, too. However, many of the chopsticks used in Japan still come from other Asian countries, so trees in China, Korea, and Vietnam are cut down to make chopsticks for Japanese people. I think we can save the trees in different countries by bringing our own chopsticks to restaurants. Why don’t you bring your own chopsticks? |
Jacob: | OK. I will do that. |
