The bull, which symbolizes Taurus, was widely deified in the ancient Near East. It was also an object of worship in Mesopotamia from the early period, and by the 4th millennium BC the bull was referred to as the "Bull of Heaven" or the "Bull of Anu," becoming associated with the gods.

In the "Mur-Apin clay tablet document," number 39 on the Way of Anu is written as "The Bull of Heaven," which corresponds to today's Taurus. There are very few images that represent Taurus constellation but images of ecliptic can be seen in images excavated from Uruk in Seleucid Syria, where a relatively large number of images depicting Taurus have been found.
