Corona Borealis looks completely different depending on where you observe it and its position in the sky. When seen from Japan, it looks like a U, but from the southern Indonesian island of Bali, it looks like an N and is called Bintang Panchi. There is a story that likens this shape to an upside-down pot.
One morning, a man named Nanang Palug came across a giant eel on his way to the rice fields. He took the eel home and instructed his wife Memen Palug to simmer it in a delicious soup before returning for lunch.
Memen was shocked to see the giant eel and searched for a pot that could hold an eel, but by noon she couldn't find one. Worried that her husband would scold her for not being able to cook, Memen decided to smear a lot of yellow spices on her body and pretend to be suddenly ill.
Returning home and worried to find his wife very ill, Nanan decided to cook the eel himself. By chopping the eel into small pieces, it fit perfectly into the pot at home and produced a delicious soup.
When the soup is ready, her kind son brings over some rice and some soup. Memen has second helpings many times, but it is still not enough, so she sneaks into the kitchen after her husband and son have left the house and drinks up the whole soup.
Still not satisfied, Memen stuck his head in the pot and started licking the soup at the bottom of the pot. After licking up every last drop of soup, Memen was satisfied, but then he realized that he couldn't get his head out of the pot.
Memen called for help. Nanan rushed back into the house and pulled the pot off Memen's head.
Nanan thought that the pot had bitten his wife, and was smashing the pot with a hammer when his son came home and told his father that the pot could not possibly bite his wife.
To apologize for her mistake, Nanan placed the broken pot on the altar, made many offerings, and begged the spirit of the pot for forgiveness. Then, suddenly, the pot rose into the sky and began to shine brightly.
Then Ratu Pande Sunantara, the patron saint of blacksmiths, appeared before the family. The patron saint admonished Nanan and Memen to change their foolish ways, praised their clever son's actions, and raised him to become a fine blacksmith.
Indonesia has a culture of treasuring things, and as such, they believe that even a single pot has a god residing within it, and have faith in it.
This act is also reflected in the legend of Bintang Punch, where the pot is said to have become a star as a warning to those who tried to settle things in the wrong way.
