We co-created a starry sky event with the Hong Kong team!
Together with the Hong Kong team, who are collaborating with the Diverse Universe Project, we were able to co-create a starry sky event at the Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre in Hong Kong.
Nearly 50 guests attended the starry sky culture exchange event connecting Japan and Hong Kong, entitled "Astronomical Science Night - Diverse Universe."
Thanks to the efforts of the Hong Kong team, we were able to gather many people with an interest in the starry sky, which was a great opportunity to let local people know about the purpose of the Diverse Universe Project. The entire team feels that we are gradually beginning to see the results of the project.
In the online lecture by Dr. Hajime Yano of JAXA, who is the general supervisor of Diverse Universe, the Hong Kong team cooperated by providing consecutive interpretation into Cantonese, carefully dividing up the Japanese sentences to ensure that visitors could fully understand the content.
The lecture unraveled each point, while overlapping with the theme of Diverse Universe, about how constellation from all over the world, past and present, have changed over the ages and how they bridge the gap between cultures. As the audience stared intently at the slides, they had one aha moment after another as the dots connected in their minds, causing people all over the venue to have these "aha moments."
During the Q&A session, the attendees, who were initially nervous and shy, began to raise their hands one by one and ask one question after another, and the event ended with great success.
During the "constellation Bingo" tournament in the second half of the event, the atmosphere in the venue changed completely as soon as the rules were explained that Expo goods would be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone's attention was drawn to the prizes, including the "Myakumyaku" stuffed toys lined up on the central stand.
The "constellation Bingo" organized by the Hong Kong team was a much bigger hit than expected, proving that this physical stargazing game transcends cultures and borders and can be enjoyed by anyone who loves stars, regardless of age or gender.
Every time a new constellation appeared on the screen, a mixture of joy and disappointment could be heard from all around, and it was also impressive to see the different expressions on each child's face as they listened to the stories related to constellation.
The first lucky customer to shout "Bingo!" won the Myakumyaku stuffed toy that everyone in the venue had been chasing, and had a beaming smile on their face.
From then on, hands went up one after another with the shout of "Bingo!" and a long, happy line formed at the table where the presents were lined up.
As with the planning of this event, all the members of the Hong Kong team have demonstrated a deep understanding of the Diverse Universe Project and a proactive attitude towards cooperation, and I feel a sense of accomplishment as our ideas take shape.
The image above is a clear file folder that uses an image of the Diverse Universe. The image below shows a starry sky photo taken by the Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre, and the front and back designs were created independently by many people. This co-creation that transcends countries and cultures has been made possible through the efforts of many people.
This international event was made possible through multiple online meetings with the Hong Kong team, but by mixing it with face-to-face offline connections, we felt an even greater expansion of possibilities with a more human touch.
We would like to thank Ms. Mei Miyako Yamauchi, representative of Astro Ninja Projects, who accompanied us, the Hong Kong team, and everyone who attended.
In the next article, we will report on our visit to Hong Kong and Macau, which has led to ideas for various future product development for Diverse Universe.
